I'll give a quick (by RTS's standards anyway :D ) summary of the game. In the first half 'pury had a massive gale right behind them and their backs scored freely through the Anthill defence piling up a fistful of points. However up front it was a different matter and the home side really started to boss the scrums, and the catch and drive was looking a formidable weapon. Having been thwarted once they made it count the next time to turn round 5-29 but with storm Arwen at their backs they were obviously looking forward to part 2. As expected they took a tighter and tighter hold on the game, 'pury were reduced to giving away numerous penalties, the end result being 3 more catch and drive tries for Anthill and halfway through the 2nd half the score was 24-29 with the visitors looking unable to compete up front and looking down and out. Where it came from god knows, but 'pury slowly started to get back into the game, thwarting the home forwards a couple of times and gradually working their way upfield where they were awarded a penalty on the 5 metre line. Rather than take the scrum (in which they were being marched backwards) they tapped it and 2 or 3 waves later they touched down. Try as they might Anthill couldn't get through in the last 10 mins as they were penalised at their most dangerous moments, 'pury worked their way into the teeth of the gale again and got a penalty that was slotted over to give them a 15 point lead with 2 mins to go - which they held on to till the final whistle. A great display of guts by our lads, they've certainly got some talent there, especially in the backs, the forwards are good too but just lack the beef and grunt to stop the weathered, more heavy pack dominating them. All in all a fine 'double Gloucester' double for the weekend.
PS For those who haven't been, Ampthill is basically a levelled field on the side of a hill, no stands or covered accommodation with some wooden 'crush barriers' driven into the side of the hill that forms a natural amphitheatre on one side of the ground. Burgers were nice though and the natives were friendly - a bit of a throwback of a ground at this level though.

Thanks Lucifer....great write up .

I'm hungry after reading the final sentence..

Haven't been to that ground but is sounds like something from 1870. :D

Certainly is Craig. That was some loss for Ealing.
