Teams Up for Hartpury RFC V Jersey Reds

Match Preview Part 1.

Hartpury RFC play their first home league match at Championship level this weekend. They will be hoping for a good turn out and all support will be surely most welcome for another historic footstep in the club's short but quite amazing history.

Jersey Reds are relatively newcomer's to the Championship but have established themselves at this level. They are well supported club at home and have developed some good local talent and " imported" some decent players over the last few seasons.

Last season saw them finish in the top 5 in The Championship, above some very useful sides. They have a strong coaching set up with Henry Biljon ( ex - Wasps, Natal and Cornish Pirates ) a very accomplished and highly respected Head Coach.

They have a very physical approach to the game and have flair in the backs.

16/17 Final positions in The Championship

London Irish
Yorkshire Carnegie
Ealing Trailfinders
Doncaster Knights
Jersey Reds
Cornish Pirates
Bedford Blues
London Scottish
Rotherham Titans
London Welsh

Jersey Reds player to watch Kieran Hardy

Position: Scrum-Half
Date of birth: 30.11.95
Place of birth: Carmarthen, Wales
Height: 6'0"
Weight - kg: 92kg
Weight - st: 14st 7lb
Previous clubs: Scarlets, Carmarthen Quins
Honours: Wales U16, U18, U20

It will be a contrast in physical stature with Gloucester Academy Harry Randall who had a blinder of a match for Hartpury against Bristol rugby . This should be a potentially fascinating pit of wits and skill between two very fast and extremely promising 9's . They have something in common. Not sure if many people realise that " our " man was actually a former Wales U 16 cap -well Captain ! although of course he has switched allegiances ( good boy ;) ) to the Red Rose.

Part 2

Hartpury will be hoping to build on their superb debut performance in the League and it will be another test of how they will adapt to this level of rugby. The visitors know how difficult a league it is to stay up in and to their credit they have adapted better than several sides who have yoyo'd in and out of this division.

Jersey Reds lost a tight home match last weekend against Doncaster knights by 24- 26

Should be a tight match again this weekend on paper; and well worth a visit over to Hartpury .

K.O 2.30 PM Saturday 9th of September.....hey be there if you aren't able to get to the Quins match ! ?.....or would rather watch Barf on Sky....

Come on Hartpury !!!

Will update when teams are announced.

Hartpury RFC

1.Murphy 2.Tanner 3.Harden 4.Edwards 5 .Edwards 6.Langley 7.Gilbert 8. Oakley 9. Randall 10.Perry 11. Caven 12.Eves
13. Carpenter 14. Cochane 15. Wilcox

Replacements:16. Stratford 17. Flook 18. Heard 19.Grieve 20 Dyer 21. Williams 22. Boulton

Nick Carpenter makes his League debut for Pury tomorrow. He comes in for Leonard and signed as a full-time professional player for Bristol Rugby in 2013 and made 15 appearances for them, including ten in the Championship; so even though just out of the academy section he's one of the most experienced players in the side at this level !. He also spent time on loan at Championship sides Nottingham and Doncaster Knights before signing for Pury in time for their Championship campaign.

So the coaches have made a few tweaks , with change in the Centre to the side that started away at Ashton Gate last week and with Edwards coming into the second row as well as Oakley switching to No. 8. . Dyer (who acquitted himself well last week at Bristol) takes a place on the bench for the visit of Jersey, and will no doubt offer some fresh gas for the last 20 minutes or so.

K.O @ 2.30 PM at the Gillman Ground

Nick Selway on the bench is a former Glaws Academy player and also played for Cinderford.

Hartpury rallied at the end and scored a third try !..... almost pulled it off but lost 19 -20

Bad luck Pury great fightback and another great performance against a very good side.

They are adapting extremely well at this level.
