National Tutoring Programme

Interesting (if not surprising) that the government decided to give this £350m to the private sector to run so they can make a profit out of it rather than let the schools themselves decide who they want to do the work (such as staff volunteering for extra work or retired teachers doing a bit). Seemingly there are now tutors being used in Sri Lanka from as young as 17 being paid £1.57 an hour who have had "a minimum!" of three weeks training. I very much doubt schools (or parents) would have chosen that option, but hey, it lines a few more dodgy pockets - and it's only mainly for disadvantaged kids.

Just another example of education being privatised. It all started going downhill when Gove and Cummings embarked on their crazy schemes when they were in charge of education around 2010 (can't remember the exact dates).
On another note, tutoring in this country is so unregulated its unreal. Anyone can set up as a tutor - you don't even need to have a DBS check or minimum teaching qualifications.

If tutoring’s accessed through a school a DBS would be required. Understand calls to regulate the wider world of private tuition tho’. Good profits being made by some!

The NTP may be non profit, but the 'partners' certainly won't be doing it for peanuts.

Glad to see that the Sri Lankan company has now removed the 17 year old employed to delivery tutoring.
