Definitely had my passport and vaccination records checked when visiting Argentina and Uruguay back in the 90s. Typhoid and Yellow Fever I think I had to get .

This is a bit of a myth. Compliance has been very high, way higher than the government ever thought was possible.

Remember this time last year when the govt was criticised for delaying lockdown? One major reason was that they thought the country would only stand for it for a very limited period so had to leave it as late as possible. Here we are a year later and the vast majority are still going along with it.

Lockdown fatigue is inevitable though and problem is that the longer the vaccination program goes on the more nonsensical the rules will seem. At some point we have to say that we’ve protected the vulnerable we have to get on with our lives.

I agree, hence the push to get groups 1 - 9 jabbed with the 2nd dose as quickly as pos now.
There may be a need for a booster come the Autumn / Winter for some groups, but we are going to have to live with covid at some point.

The picture shouldn't be shorterm however, people in their 40's for example have survived covid, but have been left with the lungs of an 80 year old, so this is potentially storing up issues for years in the future.

It’s not really a myth, there are still plenty out there who ignore the need for masks, host parties, mass protests etc.

Unfortunately those minority have an impact on all.

Outdoor protests have had very little if any effect at all, cases continued to fall at the same rate after the BLM protests as they did before. The evidence for mask usage is still as weak now as it was when the govt refused to mandate them a year ago but in any case I’ve seen very little evidence of people not complying.
It’s very easy to blame a few anecdotal examples of people not following the rules but there really isn’t much evidence that it’s made any difference.

Dominic Cummings' eye test in Barnard Castle and then lying through his teeth, did not help with people respecting the rules. The government should have come down on him like a ton of bricks.

Yet we are continually being told that a 3rd wave,( worse than either the 1st or 2nd) will be the consequence of the next 2 stages of opening up and will be raging till August. If the majority of the population have been vaccinated by July, as we've been promised, why should this be the case?

....because the vaccine gives an individual an element of protection from being ill from covid, it doesn't stop the individual from catching it or spreading it. There are also cases if covid re-infecting people aswell as mutating.
