So nothing really revealed. Good to hear from them both ‘within hours of arriving’. There is a “new vision” evolving but no real details. No reference to the contractual rumours. Pragmatic rugby when necessary. Looking to strengthen playing dept, no names but much emphasis on forwards. Covid effect on what’s gone on should not be underestimated. No detail of comings and goings (as expected). GS will have a free hand to build the team he needs (again no detail). Heading to Hartpury now to meet the players and get started.

TBH it was never going to be the level of detail that so many crave (too early) but announced on Saturday evening and he’s talking publicly on the local radio station at the first chance. He talked sensibly, measured and gave a decent account of himself.

Cheers for that westglos. Missed the broadcast so thanks LowerO as well.

If George is here and off to Hartpury already it at least looks as though the club are sure that all is well with him being GRFC contracted so lets hope whatever has happened over the weekend blows itself out asap.

Good luck George ... do you like jam ?
The only problem with doing nothing is not knowing when you have finished.

Very good news that there will be some additions to the playing squad - hopefully will reassure some of our more nervy correspondents on here.

Agree. It's a breakfast programme for everyone, not just rugby enthusiasts, so it would be unrealistic to expect too much specialist rugby detail.
But good PR from the club to get them on the local BBC so swiftly.

:D Yes indeed, welcome news. I hadn’t expected any significant signings. I’m still not sure we’ll get any big names (which I don’t particularly covet btw) but there should be some very good players available. If Leicester don’t want Bateman for example that’s the sort of signing I’d like to see.

Bateman is a decent loosehead. However, it is the tighthead side where we are more vulnerable to injury/loss of form.

I enjoyed listening to their short segment this morning, I thought GS spoke well and I’m very excited to see what he brings to the club. I’m very encouraged by his understanding of the rugby played in the Premiership and especially the focus on the pack. It’s also encouraging to hear that the club are fully prepared to back him with any additions he needs, player of staff.

As for Greg Bateman, I’m sure he can play both sides, but you could argue we need an out and out TH specialist.

I too would like a quality TH but I’d settle for someone like Bateman (if we couldn’t have both!)

He can play both sides, as can Hohneck and I believe JFR. We have two young props in the senior squad and I’ll be brutally honest here; I think Knight is ready to take the next step but I don’t have much confidence in Seville. We’ve also signed Stanley who is a TH. So bottom line is I don’t see our need as specifically TH.

Last season, I believe Exeter had three international tightheads in their squad....
