Just watched the Uruguay game and reminded myself how good Gommers was. His pass was fantastic; not many better around that time or since. Begs another question; who had the best scrum half pass over the last say 30 years?

For me, Braley has a wonderful and hugely consistent pass, probably why he was called up to the international setup. He never had the pace of Dan Robson but an exemplary pass for sure

Having just watched some of the SA game from the RWC 2003 I can tell you that Kyran Bracken didn’t have a good pass except the dive. Far too many passes ballooned in the air. The games seemed much looser but tries were at a premium.

I watched the Samoan game the other night and Dawson's pass was terrible. Jonny W was catching nearly every pass above his head - when he got a look in at first receiver that is. Most of the time it seemed to be Thompson standing there.

It was great to see Terry Fanolua, Tindall and Balshaw (I conveniently forget that they used to play down the A46 for this purpose), Vickery - not sure if Trevor Woodman got on?

Never felt Bracken was at same standard as Gommersall or Dawson and was amazed how often he got the nod over either the other 2. Assume he was considered “safe”. Very poor against SA

Best scrumhalf passers for me: Gommersall, Melville and Hill. And Robert Jones was pretty "tidy".

Gommers' passing it straight off the ground, taking no steps was much undervalued, the drift of the back line sometimes started there.

MIckey Booth would get a game, surely? Glawster Dawg.

I remember Meville doing warm-up drills with Gommers where Gommers would scoop the ball off the ground one handed and nail a 20 metre bullet pass in one motion. Off both hands as well.
