Whatever you think of what happened in 1978 he was a heck of a player in some great All Blacks teams. Taken far too soon.

A colourful character and I suppose some would say "professional" in the way he hoodwinked a penalty to enable his team to win in '78 - I think the other lock was Frank Oliver who also self propelled himself out of the lineout. It played nicely to the sense of historical injustice that the Ref was English. Wales vs NZ in 2004 was similar with Spredders as Ref, but reality is if Wales had been good enough they'd have won, on both occasions.

But, Haden, what a player, one of the great locks of any generation - can you imagine him & say Colin Meads at lock together.

RIP Andy

Sad loss, a true great of the game, let himself down slightly with the lineout exit, however watching that game reminded me of one of the greatest players of all time, in my opinion better openside than McCaw , Graham Mourie, brilliant player, great captain and a honourable man, gave up captaincy of All Blacks because he wouldn't tour South Africa during apartheid era, remember on the same tour as above he passed the ball out of a maul, it went along the line and he took the pass outside the winger, fittest player I have ever seen.
