Premiership Rugby drop ‘offer’ to BBC to show the final

13 Oct 2020 09:48 am:

The BBC had a team lined up and apparently Premiership Rugby reneged.

Not a great way to continue to grow the game and gain some exposure. The article said a peak of around 200k watched the semis and the beeb would get c. 2 million for an international in the same time slot.

Another one dropped by PRL. I'm sure the Beeb would have donated a few sheckles to the financial pot too. Rugby fans are being deprived of live viewing and this would have helped the wider audience no end.

I would have thought Channel 5 as an existing partner for this type of live PRL rugby feed would have been a better option...still a couple of weeks...lets hope something can happen
I'd love to agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong....

No doubt CVC - as a partner of PRL and experts on leveraging the best financial TV deal were involved ??

Shows what their only intent is in being involved - money, money, money. B*gger widening the game's appeal (at a wonderful time to do it).

PRL are a complete shambles.

Just a thought but maybe BT objected to their cash cow being free to air?

I doubt Prem Rugby with 200k viewing figures for a semi-final is a cash cow product for BT. Also, free-to-air leads to more subscriptions?

PRL really are a shambles.

BT Sport viewing figures of 200,000 is pretty good for them, I'd suggest.
