Lancaster will go down in history as one of the worst England coaches in history, crashing out so embarrassingly in your home World Cup will ensure that.

His biggest downfall for me was becoming infatuated with Burgess to the detriment of everyone else. Although when Burgess was on the pitch against Wales, England were cruising.

I never understood why he missed Twelvetrees around, firstly by picking Burrell who offers so little, then big Sam. I honestly believe had Billy been given the run up of games, England would have escaped the group, as it was he was dreadfully messed around and we probably suffered the most. The guy has never recovered his confidence fully imo.

I can't help but think that Squeaky had some input into selection, even though Lancaster gets the blame.

To be fair Billy’s partnership with Burrell was solid during the Six Nations in 2014. They were both instrumental in the win against Wales after the disappointment of Cardiff in 2013. Billy’s grubber kick through to Burrell to score in the corner ring any bells? Both suffered as a result of Lancaster’s and Farrell’s infatuation with Burgess.

The rest is history...

Will be interesting to hear what SL has to say in return, well the buck stops at the top unless you are squeaky of course when it appears ok to blame everything but yourself

as usual, there's an element of the disingenuous in Squeaky's comments, but fundamentally the Burgess period was a disaster, and all evidence would point to Bomber and Farrell messing up. His point about rebuilding a culture in 2012 and then failing to narrow the focus in 2015 does seem to fit the events.
