Desert Island Discs

Desert Island Discs

In order to lighten the mood on here, plus add the long awaited music thread for summer 2018, I thought it would be interesting and hopefully fun to see what everyone’s Desert Island Discs would be in the same vein as the long running radio 4 programme.

For those not familiar, you need to pick 8 pieces of music, a book and a luxury item - which can’t be living, a form of communications or similar. You also have to choose one song to keep above all others.

They have the vast library available to download as a podcast and there are some excellent ones on there.

To start things off, here are mine, some random stuff and incredibly difficult to narrow down to just 8

1. Black - Wonderful Life (a song I loved growing up)

2. Oasis - Live Forever (epic song from Uni days)

3. The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun (favourite Beatles song)

4. Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata (I used to play this really well when younger)

5. Mickey Harte - Never Wanna Let U Down (the song was always on the radio when I first moved to Ireland)

6. Pulp - Something Changed (first dance song)

7. Prefab Sprout - King Of Rock And Roll (my daughters love this song because of the jumping frogs)

8. Ocean Colour Scene - The Day We Caught The Train (favourite band, favourite song)

Book - Yes Man by Danny Wallace (very uplifting in a very light way)

Luxury - iPad which only shows the video of ‘that’ try, the Sinbad one.

Song to keep, the froggy song as my girls call it!

Over to you lot.....

1. Little Red Corvette - Prince (the first song I heard from the genius).

2. Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel (the live version on the Letterman Show) still gives me goose bumps

3. Flowers in the Rain (1st song played on radio 1)

4. Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division (just a top tune)

5. Baba O’Reilly - The Who (the best song from the best rock band)

6. Father and Son - Cat Stevens (best lyrics)

7. Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond (obvious really)

8. Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) - Frank Wilson (the song that got me into Northern Soul)

Book - Warlock by Wilbur Smith. Brilliantly written and long if I’m going to be on the island for a while

Luxury item - my iPad as it has everything I would need on it

Song to keep - Solsbury Hill, it’s the goose bump thing
