Champions Cup 19/20

Champions Cup 19/20

OK, so the dust is settling on this season - I'm speculating on our Champions Cup opponents for next season. I'd like to be in a pool with Leincster, Toulouse and Bath, just for the tourism opportunities. Any other attractive venues that appeal?

Absolutely no to another English team. That stretch where we played Exeter 3 times in about 5 weeks was a bit much.

Leinster, Scarlets and Clermont would be a good mix of quality sides.

I don’t think Scarlets have qualified. They lost a play off against Ospreys.

We will be in the 2nd tier of seeds.

Sale have qualified as the 7th team, so we will have 1 French team, 1 pro 14 team from the 1st & 3rd seeds. 1st seeds are 1st / 2nd* placed teams, 3rd seeds are 4th* / 5th placed teams; * 2 of the 3 teams, will be from the same 2 leagues
Then 1 team from the 5th tier, which consists of Benetton, Ospreys, Bath, Sale & the 6th placed French team. We can play Bath or Sale

Really? Well assumption is the mother of all bleep ups! Stick Edinburgh in the pot then. Beautiful city and a good away day for supporters.

Toulouse, Montpellier and Clermont...... and yes I know it can’t happen, which is a shame. Paris would be nice.

Hmm, do you have a 3rd choice, they've not qualified either

The pro 14 teams are the 4 Irish provinces, Glasgow (we will play 1 of these 5 teams) & Ospreys in tier 4

Teams that have qualified:

Exeter, Saracens, Gloucester, Northampton, Harlequins, Bath, Sale, Toulouse, Clermont Auvergne, Lyon, La Rochelle, Racing 92, Montpellier, Glasgow, Leinster, Munster, Ulster, Connacht, Benetton, Ospreys.

Two French teams and Benetton would be nice for away trips. This time Benetton have qualified on merit so won’t be pushovers.
