This is a cracking Haka. Wonder what WR would do here?

Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
This I don't mind as they are both wanting to play at it on equal terms. Sadly our tradition was to blow their heads off with a Brown Bess ... and we can't have that. so it would be better if their challenge went out to the crowd and any players who fancy a face off. I accept that to do a silly dance back is an insult of kinds so since we have no alternative it is best not to be involved.

Love it!! We need more of this!

CMGC wrote:It always used to be done towards the crowd ( or so I was told) I think that would be more appropriate especially if the opposition don't have a similar response ( unlike Fiji etc.) It is also clear the hakka has been changed to make it more aggressive and adverserial. I can't see much heritage or tradition in that. I think there should be no obligation on the opposition to hhave to stand and face it.
In the old film clip KPB posted above they are clearly performing to the crowd. You can see the England team running around in the background waiting for them.
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
Here's the main thing about the Haka and teams responses to the Haka that most people don't seem to realise.
It doesn't make any difference to the result one way or the other!

Sad to hear 1/2p has yet another concussion, I really fear for his career.
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
My understanding is
- the Haka was first performed at the Wales vs NZ match in Cardiff in 1905.
- The Welsh responded to it by singing the Welsh anthem, the first time an anthem was sung at a rugby match, possibly even at a sporting event.
However, in 2005, to commemorate the 100 yrs of the 1905 match Wales wanted to replicate the day. The AB's refused, insisting that once they've performed the Haka they move straight to kick off. As neither side compromised the AB's did the Haka in their changing room, with the cameras filming it. They then ran out to the ko.
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
I was always of the opinion it was a challenge to do battle, so the opposition would stand and face it. Anyway it is a fine tradition, long may it continue. As has been said before, it makes no difference to the outcome, it's not as if it gives anyone an unfair advantage
