Another RWC Final for England - the 4th - and still the only Home Nations' country to have got there (and won once). So not bad at all JUST rather annoying that the team failed to turn-up on time/on the day and the oppo turned up big time with clear heads.

No shame in losing today to SA and what a difference to the shambles that was RWC15.

England have a youngish squad and can now build on that for RWC23 and this season's 6N. You learn a lot more in defeat than victory.

My guess is that EJ will (deservedly) stay at the helm - and bring Conor O'Shea into the camp via the U18/20's over the next 2 years.

End of the day no-one died, it's a game and respectful hats off to SA/Erasmus. Longer term the sport of rugby/country of SA may be all the better via this result.

English sport in a good place with recent World Cup performances at football, cricket and rugby. Not many countries can match us across the board.

PS : The increasingly pathetic England squad/coach doomsday theorists and naysayers need to have a long hard look at themselves in the mirror - and shudder at what they see.

Apart from a struggling scrum there were quite a few errors from England some of which were due to a very strong S.A. defence : -

1) Several knock ons, one of which directly led to a try.

2) Inaccurate passes.

3) Inability to win 50/50 balls in the air.

4) Missed tackles.

S.A. squeezed our scrum, tackled like demons and pressurised us into mistakes. Erasmus outwitted Jones.

No complaints, the better team won.

Gatland was right, if graceless, the semi was our final. I'm glad the team that scored tries won. I don’t think anybody in that team today will feel they performed well.

Totally agree, Ken and no leadership from anyone to bring the game plan back to basics in order to regroup.

Well done South Africa, a well deserved victory. I'm not a gambling guy but I had a chance brief meeting with Franco Mostert at Kingsholm a little while back who ensured me that his team would go well. He convinced me enough to chance £30 of my 'well-earned' pension on them winning the World Cup. Thank you very much Franco!

I thought that today England were not playing a team but a nation. We were beaten by the better side on the day.
I thought that it was disrespectful to the opponants and the tournamment for most of the side ( Curry apart ) not to wear their losers medals , such a contrats to our gracious hosts. Equally Farrells monsalabic interview , which appeared to be cut short , said little for respect and humility in defeat.
There is no disgrace in reaching a final and getting beaten on the day, England have a lot to look forward to with the squad and player resourcse at their disposal.

In the vocal minority..

Saving that up have you Smirnoff, I forgot to post it yesterday, apologies. :D

SA were well deserved winners, England failed to turn up. Roll on RWC2023 in France!

I am pleased that Rollo has said what he has because he echoes what has been nagging at me since the ceremony. I felt it to be discourteous to the winners, to the hosts Japan ,to all the fans who had supported them and not in the spirit of our great game. Reaching a final is an achievement in itself - to lose is no major issue because someone has to. I felt it reflected a dominant in team culture. How do we explain their actions to our young folk?
