Rumours
Re: Rumours
Some interesting and perceptive posts here. I think we all need a sense of context and perspective. Just having been in the top 12 clubs in the country since time immemorial is an achievement in itself. Silverware can be both a curse and a blessing but always an aspiration. Let’s just enjoy the journey, the beer and the pasty, the nights under the lights, the camaraderie and the occasional Hook penalty that snatches a momentous win. Ultimately the cub imbues us with a sense of belonging. It’s in our DNA. Highs and lows have to be treated as the imposters that in reality they are. Live in hope and cheer with pride.
Re: Rumours
Back to the real world.
Glaws should have aspirations to always improve and look to get better both on and off the field...….as much as sport is about taking part and getting enjoyment from it its also about winning; that's where I want us to be.....looking to win and aspire too.
I hope the day never arrives that Glaws as a club start to suggest we should be happy to make up the numbers and just look for financial stability and no more.
Re: Rumours
As an old coach used to say in the days before league rugby...if it’s not about the winning then why the #### do they keep score?
Re: Rumours
Of course it's about winning, whether that's an individual game or the league, but we wont win anything if we go bust, unless m St. Q sells out to a billionaire who is happy to chuck money at us ala lansdowne etc we have to cut our coat according to our cloth, of course we could all help by paying twice as much for our tickets, that would raise some towards building a super squad but doubt many would pay

I’m not sure how a richer owner would help the squad with the salary cap being properly enforced as long as we pay up to it which we are. Obviously it would help with stadium and infrastructure

Money, or the apparent lack of it, seems to feature a lot on here but, as you say, if we are paying up to the cap already we cant spend any more on the squad anyway.

Caps the cap but more chance of securing better marquee players.
I believe we are up to the cap, we have got some very good players, shame a few are Injured.
I find it a little concerning that we release Kriel, lose Hinkley and replace them with not exactly a young championship player but let’s see what he can do. Hopefully those funds are being saved to strengthen the front row.
We must have some pretty high wages on the books
Dryer - potential marquee
Mostert - must be marquee
Cipriani
Polledri
Williams
Woodward
Heinz recently renewed, market value would have gone up a fair bit after World Cup
Zammit
Val
They probably average £250k quite easily.
Re: Rumours
Certainly extra money would improve infrastructure such as the stadium and new training facilities. Would specialist coaching to improve skills and working with the pack fall outside of the cap? These are all areas for improvement as current resourcing doesn’t seem to be as effective as it should be!
