It would see one of LRZ, Thorley, Marshall or Woodward ommitted from the starting lineup (at full strength), which just seems odd. They're all good enough to start for most clubs and there's already 4 of them for 3 spots. We appear to be crying out for some more depth in the front row? I look forward to this weeks developments...

They won’t all be fit together, Marshall is regularly out injured as is Woodward, Zammit shouldn’t be playing every week, we’ll end up breaking him.

Agree we need to focus on the pack but if we can afford to do both then happy days.

Gets involved..

Assuming what you say is correct Gb, signing someone who will regularly be away with international duty seems an odd choice. Also, the 'if' in your post is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

I would like to see Thorley at centre.

Getting the hang of this..

Anybody mentioned Phil Burgess recently?

...

Don’t know what made me think of it, my brain just connected the mention of “Cookie” with Burgess for some reason.

The others will Learn a lot for him, he’s world class and would drive standards I’m sure. Yes international’s miss games but I think the benefits outweigh the cons.

I’d still be very surprised if this happens though.

You’d think the coaches are focusing on the pack, hopefully we’ll get some updates soon.

For all the ‘May will be away on international duty’ comments, what about spinning if that when he’s away we STILL have LRZ, Thorley, Woodward and Marshall pending any call ups for the 4? May returning would only strengthen our options.

It’s our 8 that needs investment in. We would be mad spending loads in the backs.

In terms of the front row, I think we now currently have:

Loose Head: Hohneck, VRR, Fourie, Seville
Tight Head; Balmain, JFR, Dreyer, Knight, Stanley
Hooker: Hanson, Marais, Gleave, Walker

I don’t think I’ve missed anyone but please forgive me if I have. Those in bold have unfortunately been injured for significant periods over the last couple of seasons. However, most have played enough to be part of the salary cap although not 100% sure.

Genuine questions. 1. If we are spending up to the cap, can someone explain how we are supposed to bring in top level front rows. 2. If all were fit and available, would you still be clamouring for ‘world class’ props?

Fourie has only ever been stationed at hooker for us.

1. I think the argument is that the Kriel money (and maybe Grobler leaving) would be available as both are unlikely to be our marquee signings (Moster and Cipriani at a guess).

2. Bit of a tricky question as its such an attritional position. We are short of a quality tighthead (no disrespect to Balmain but hes unlikely to trouble the England selectors). Ive never seen JFR play so cannot comment.
