RWC19 "Stuff"
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
Agreed. European Rugby expects clubs to have alternative plans or venues over the same weekend if something happens.
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
The tournament regulations were published months ago. That included what would happen in the event of a game being weather affected. The time to argue was then. I don't recall any discussion. You could argue that the typhoon season should have been avoided. But that would either rule Japan out as a host, or a major change to the rugby calendar. You could argue that all matches should have a plan B.....but realistically how would that ever work when some teams only have 4 days between pool matches as it is. Frankly, I think the organisers had no option, both in terms of cancelling these matches, and in terms of potential rescheduling. It is unfortunate for everybody, teams, supporters and broadcasters but that's what happens sometimes. No one's fault. Move on.
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
So what do the regulations state should there be a further weather event affecting a quarter or semi final? Toss of a coin?!

Postponed Matches
Where a knock-out Match cannot be commenced on the scheduled Match day, it will be considered aspostponed, and will be re-scheduled to be played within the two days following the scheduled Match day, orsuch longer period as determined by RWCL.
Cancelled Matches
Where a knock-out Match cannot commence within the two days following the scheduled Match day (or such longer period as specified by RWCL) or is abandoned prior to half-time and cannot be postponed and rescheduled within this period, it shall be considered as cancelled.
In such situations, the following sequential criteria shall apply to determine the winner of the cancelled Match:
The Team with the most Match points from the pool phase (applicable in quarter-finals and semifinals).
The Team which in all its Tournament Matches has the best difference between points scored for and points scored against.
The Team which in all its Tournament Matches has the best difference between tries scored for and tries scored against.
The Team which in all its Tournament Matches has scored most points.
The Team which in all its Tournament Matches has scored most tries.
Where all criteria above are not able to determine a winner, the Team that is higher ranked in the official World Rugby World Rankings at the time the Match is scheduled to be played (this criterion will not apply for the Final; in the case that the winner of the Final cannot be determined from the above criteria the two Teams shall be jointly declared winners).

It is someone's fault - the organisers. Yes, some teams had 4 days between games, Italy v NZ has been cancelled for Saturday morning. The winner of that game plays the quarter final the following Saturday. Why on earth couldn't it be rescheduled for Sunday or Monday? Yes NZ probably would have won comfortably but that's not really the point. If a tournament is run on 'who would win on paper' then not much point even bothering to start. And I think there is merit in what Parisse said, 'if NZ had needed the points...'
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
I guess our 2 Glos Italians will be back a little earlier than previously expected.
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
Stephen Jones has tweeted this:
Furious debate raging on social media & in Tokyo. No-one will win it. Titan Parisse never got the farewell; Scotland may not get chance to qualify. Change date/venue impossibly tough. We will be fine in our hotel. But statistically, it is likely that people will die. No winners
I think he’s got it spot on, now stop looking for people to blame and move on!
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
What..stop moaning. Jeez no chance.
You just know that the weather wouldn't have happened if DC was in the squad....and typhoons are always worse with Daly at fullback...and if Itoje isn't the biggest penalty magnet in the team who is?

You’re right, bloody Eddie Jones’ fault
