RWC19 "Stuff"
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
I see some talk in th emedia now about a change up in th emajor Int comps( RC , ^N) . With Japan and Fiji in the top 10 and others going backwards I now agree that something has to give. It is not reasonable that two top Nations have no meaningfull rugby outside of the WC cycle. Japan, Fiji, Oz and NZ would make a more compelling future and Wr needs to pump money in on a more equitable basis. The Japan story only shows what a bit of time and effort can produce. Shame the PI's don't get given that chance. Given that TV is where the money is I don't understand why they don't get more action.

I would hope that the Scottish clubs who "own" the SRU will be ashamed at the way Mark Dodson represented Scottish Rugby with his threat of legal action v WR and demand his immediate resignation as CEO. Appalling behaviour considering the fatal circumstances and showing no respect to the Japanese hosts or country as a whole. Not Scottish Rugby's finest moment....and can't imagine many neutrals supported them today.
No reason for Gregor Townsend to go IMHO.
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
I've always held the view that the only qualification Townsend (one of my heroes as a player) has to be Scotland's coach is that he's a Scot. From the moment Vern Cotter was replaced I thought it was a backwards move, and so it has turned out.
Is Vern Cotton any relation to Dot Cotton? ![]()
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
Is Mark Dodson the one who said he was aiming for Scotland to win the World Cup when he started ?
I was in no way suggesting that Townsend should shoulder the blame and fall on his sword, though they'll obviously review what for them has been a disappointing campaign.

Well, the proposed WR Nations Championships, which would have aided the above, was scuppered by the usual closed shop suspects.

I'd go so far as to say that it not reasonable for any of the sides who are at the World Cup to go so long without coming up against the top tier opposition. How they are expected to progress to the point where they are able to compete with the big boys I am not sure.
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
Better news from Scotland's football team - they are currently holding their own against San Marino.

It was probably too early - biggest loss to Scotland was the loss of Dan McFarland to Ulster. Scotland’s forward play been utter poo under Danny Wilson.
Re: RWC19 "Stuff"
Lots of praise quite rightly showered on the Nippons
.
What I particularly enjoyed was their players trying to run into between but not at opposition. I think that’s what caught the Scots out.
You may have strongest arms and biggest chests but if the opponent is at your fingertips you are not going to stop him.
Let’s hope it is a lesson to others a faster game is a lot more exciting.
In fact we say a bit of it from our boys Friday evening, and acquired some tries.
