I've every sympathy for the Scottish management. A huge amount of time and resources have been put into this world cup campaign. It would have been terrible if the chance to progress had been taken away from them.

That said, they need to look at their media strategy. It doesn't look good to be moaning about a rugby match when a natural disaster is unfolding.

Perhaps Scotland and World Rugby can both take a look at what lessons there are to be learnt from this. That seems more constructive than looking to find who can be blamed and punished.

Blaming WR is a classic " lets blame someone else".
Everyone wants a WC. The major nations make a mint from it. Everyone decided to go to Japan. Most did their due diligence and all knew what time of year and any weather risks. We then get an unprecedented storm. It could have been an earthquake !! The rules laid down clearly stated that there would be no replays. Everyone knew what the rules were.
Don't then moan when it doesn't suit you and then divert by implying without any evidence that others would have followed your route. If the tier one nations think this organisation was wrong then there was a time to make that point a few years back.

So what would be their option if they (or anybody) had objected? Be kicked out?

CMGC, how much do you know about the way WR works. My issue is not solely related to the Scotland situation...do you think WR has handled the tackle area / concussion issue well? What does Alain Rolland actually do? Do you think Beaumont and Pichot are leading the organisation well? Whatever happened to the much-vaunted Global Calendar? I could go on, and my view is that there needs to be a better way of organising the global game is a long-standing one.

What would have Scotland's due diligence have told them? that they did to get as many points from the Ireland games as possible?

I'd argue that if it wasn't for the club structure in England & France, the power of the owners and their selling out to CVC, World Rugby would be in a much more healthy position to introduce something like a global calendar. Dudley Wood and his ilk completely messed up professionalism back in 1995, and World Rugby has struggled with the control ceded by the RFU & FFR ever since.

Jonny May is set to win his 50th cap this weekend. He's been speaking ahead of the game about the bizarre circumstances that led to his debut back in 2013 when he missed out on a night out with the squad to spend time with his parents: http://bit.ly/MayEngDebutRecalled

Congratulations to Jonny - he will always be one of ours. Amazing that he’s accrued 50 caps already, he copped a lot of flak in the early days but must be one of the first names on the team sheet now.

GS - I accept that WR are not faultless in general and in my view have handled player welfare and the distribution of funds quite poorly over recent yers. However I suspect they are heavily influenced via voting etc. by what NZ/ OZ/ eng/ Wales etc. tell them and have to find a way of getting them on board as well as the tier 2 countries in order to get a concensus. I suspect that is quite hard. My comments re WR were merely about the WC on which I think they have done a decnet job. I suspect it is quite hard to get anything like radical change done due to the problems listed above. I don't have any smart insight to WR but merely observe like the rest of us from afar.
